Terms & Conditions

Who we are
High School Compass ("we," "us," "our") is a website built by two high school students, Veer and Geetansh, to help other high schoolers navigate classes, clubs, competitions, college prep, and career decisions. By creating an account, browsing, or otherwise using this site, you agree to these Terms & Conditions.
This site is used by minors
High School Compass is aimed at high school students, most of whom are minors under the age of 18, and some of whom may be under 13. We take that seriously:
If you are under 13, you may not create an account without the involvement of a parent or guardian, and they should review this page with you first. If you are between 13 and 17, we encourage you to review this page with a parent or guardian as well, even though it is not required. By signing up, you are confirming that you meet these conditions.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without a parent or guardian's involvement. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account without that involvement, we will take reasonable steps to remove the account and associated data.
What information we collect
When you create an account, we collect the name, email address, password, and grade you provide. As you use the site, we may also store the school, GPA (4.0 unweighted / 5.0 weighted max), transcript link, classes, clubs, competitions, and interests you choose to add to your profile so we can give you more relevant advice. We may also collect basic technical information (like browser type) that is standard for any website, mainly for security and troubleshooting.
We only collect what we need to run the site — we do not ask for sensitive information like government ID numbers, financial details, or precise location.
Why we use your information
We use the information above to:
Create, secure, and let you log back into your account; personalize the class, club, competition, college-prep, and career guidance we show you; respond to you if you contact us for help; and keep the site working correctly and safely.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use it to serve targeted advertising. We do not share your information with third parties except the service providers that help us run the site (such as our hosting and authentication providers), and only to the extent needed for them to do that job, or where required by law.
How we protect your information
Passwords are never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by our authentication provider, which stores passwords in hashed form. We limit access to user data to what is needed to operate the site. That said, no online service can guarantee perfect security, and we cannot promise that data will never be exposed by circumstances outside our control.
Parent and guardian rights
If you are a parent or guardian of a user, you can ask us to show you the personal information we have about your child, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your child's account and data entirely. To do this, contact us using the information in Section 12. We will act on verified requests within a reasonable time.
Your responsibilities
You agree to provide accurate information when you sign up, to keep your password private, and not to share your account with anyone else. You agree not to impersonate another person or misuse the site in a way that could harm us or other users.
Not professional advice
The guidance on High School Compass is written by fellow students and is general information only. It is not professional academic, legal, financial, medical, or counseling advice. Always confirm important decisions — like course selection, college applications, or career choices — with your school counselor, a parent or guardian, or another qualified professional.
Limitation of liability
High School Compass is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Veer, Geetansh, and High School Compass are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for decisions you make based on content or advice found on this site.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. You, or a parent or guardian, may request that we delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us, and we will do so within a reasonable time, unless we are required to keep certain records by law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time as the site grows. If we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, ask you to re-accept the updated terms the next time you sign in.
Contact us
If you have questions about these terms, want to review or delete your data, or are a parent or guardian with a request about your child's account, contact us at hello@highschoolcompass.example.
