Why compete?
Academic and extracurricular competitions push you to grow a skill, and a strong result is a great way to stand out on applications.
Where to look
Check with your subject teachers, club advisors, and counselor for competitions tied to your interests, whether that's science fairs, math leagues, debate tournaments, hackathons, or art and writing contests.
Recognizing your wins
Keep a running list of every award, honor, and competition result, even the small ones. You'll thank yourself when it's time to fill out resumes and applications.
Handling losses
Not placing doesn't mean it wasn't worth entering. Competing builds skills and confidence regardless of the outcome, and there's almost always a next round or a next year.
